Ground Water Storage Tank Cleaning in Sugar Land

Pressure Washing Sugar Land has spent the last week cleaning several ground water storage tanks throughout Sugar Land.

This is quite an interesting project as it requires us to clean round objects over 2 stories up – including the roofs!  The tanks had developed mold and mildew along with a lot of dirt build up over time.

The roofs are almost flat but have a slight dome on them to allow rain water to drain off.  Unfortunately the roofs had high spots and low spots which allowed water to collect and settle which is a breeding ground for the black mold and mildew.

The roofs are really important because if they remain dirty and covered in live growth the mold and mildew will spread quickly down the sides of the tank again.  Some of the development on the sides of the tanks was also black which required a stronger detergent to remove than a standard green build up.

Fortunately we are experienced in this type of project so we knew just how to handle it.

We were able to clean each location in just one day with the exception of a location that had a completely different issue.  One location had stripes running from top to bottom that were bonded to the paint through a process called electrostatic bonding.

This issue is very common on gutters where rain water runs down the metal in the same path over and over and the metal electronically charges the dirt and attracts it to the metal and paint.  In order to remove, or lighten these stripes we have to break the bond using a non-hydroxide based degreaser. This is extremely laborious and quite challenging on a tank that is around 35 feet tall!  We have overcome all the challenges and the tanks look great and the paint will now last much longer which will save Sugar Land residents the cost of repainting for many more years to come!

We are the experts in ground water storage tanks and hydro-tanks in Sugar Land as well as Richmond, Rosenberg, Katy, Cypress, Tomball, Magnolia, Spring, The Woodlands, Conroe, Friendswood, Pearland, Manvel, Alvin, Stafford, Houston and Missouri City!

Tips And Tricke For Pressure Washing

You may have many things to clean and sometimes warm soapy water and sponges or cleaning rags just can’t get the job done. When this happens, it’s time to bring out the heavy equipment, but it can sometimes be a little tricky. Here are some helpful pressure washing tips and tricks to make the job a little easier. If you take these tips into consideration and follow common sense safety guidelines you may just surprise yourself!

For best results, pre-soak the area to clean. You can apply a detergent or degreaser. Let is set for a few minutes before you use the power washer.  This will losen up the dirt and grime brfore you hit it with the pressure.

Do not wash all surfaces in the same manner. Some are more sensitive than others. For example, when cleaning siding or brick keep the nozzle back from the surface. Otherwise you might remove more than just dirt and grime.

When you wash your deck or fence, wait until the rest of the house is clean. Much of the dirt from the house may end up on these surfaces, so if you save them until last, you’ll have less work to do.

When using your power cleaner for the first time on a surface, clean a test area first. Make it as small as possible. This might save you a lot of problems.

Use the right nozzle for the job. If your unit has more than one nozzle, make sure to choose the one with the right pressure rating. This will help you keep from damaging some of your property.

When you have plants close to your home foundation, cover them before you start power cleaning. You can use tarps or sheets of plastic. This will help to protect them from damage.

If you are not sure how to power wash, you may wish to hire professionals. You won’t have to worry about damaging any of your things and you can rest and take it easy. It may not cost as much as you think to hire a good powering washing company.

How To Safely Pressure Wash Above Two Stories

Pressure washing a tall two story home or even a three story or above building becomes pretty tricky pretty quickly.  First it is nearly impossible to pressure wash from an extension ladder.  If you have ever tried this or seen someone try this you know it is not only dangerous but it is just down right no fun!  You are up on the top of a tall ladder spraying water everywhere, especially on yourself, and probably not even doing a very effective job  of cleaning!

You would ideally spray directly at the surface you are cleaning but from a ladder this becomes almost impossible so you end up spraying upwards.  So you are, at best, delivering a glancing blow to the surface which will not do a very effective job in most cases.  Moreover, you are likely to be spraying up into your siding planks or your breathing vents to your attic.  In either case you are delivering a powerful stream of water to a place that is not designed to take on water.  Think about it…why would the area directly under your roof line ever really get wet?

So now you have water under your siding or inside your attic – exactly where you don’t want it!  The way to safely clean a 2 story home is with low pressure and contractor grade detergents designed to kill mold and mildew and loosen up dirt so it can be rinsed away with low pressure – safely from the ground up to 3 stories. Our safe house washing methods allow us to remain safely on the ground and clean your soffits, siding and bricks without spraying water behind the surface – where it does not belong!

There are a few instances when a ladder becomes necessary, and we generally have a few with us at all times, but these instances are rare and we almost never use high pressure from a ladder.  Think about how powerful a machine a pressure washer is and then imagine using it 20 feet in the air with only 1 hand or no hands holding on….sound safe?

Call Pressure Washing Sugar Land and get the job done right while you (and we) remain safely on the ground.

Fall Is Just Around The Corner – Time To Get The House Clean

Now that we have finally made it to September the cooler weather is just around the corner!  For me personally Falls is probably my favorite season for weather.  I really like that first day when a brisk winds blow through and you first think to yourself (because if you think out loud it is called talking) I should probably be wearing a sweater!  As the weather changes it also a great time to evaluate the exterior of your home and see if there is some room for improvement or some minor maintenance issues you may have ignored because it was just too hot to be outside!

Take a good look at your yard.  It is probably about to go more or less dormant soon so it may be a good time to winterize your lawn, fertilize, put down some top soil, and aerate.  You can do all these in one day if you put your mind to it and the efforts will pay off over the next few months and your yard will be ready to look great next spring!

Take a look at the mulch in your flower beds.  The rain storms we have had recently are likely to have washed much of it away and replenishing it now will help your flowers and plants survive the winter and look great.  You can buy it by the truckload or just have your landscaper do it for you for a reasonable charge.

Have your house and concrete pressure washed.  The mold and mildew have been growing all spring and summer and now that the temperatures have cooled they growth will slow down somewhat so it is a great time to get the mold and mildew killed and washer away.  This will have your house looking great now and keep it looking great for the upcoming holidays.

Follow these tips and enjoy the outdoors more this fall and well into the winter!

Why Is Safe Power Washing So Important In Sugar Land?

Safe pressure washingBeing safe is always a good idea and I think everyone knows this.  Sometimes certain professions are just more dangerous than others and that’s the way it is – right?  Being a professional football player is pretty dangerous, defusing live bombs is pretty dangerous, being a cop while the animals from BLACK LIVES MATTER are on the loose is pretty dangerous.  Being a pressure washer…maybe not on that level but it can be a dangerous profession if you don’t take the proper precautions.

Most newbies to the industry and probably all homeowners to try to pressure wash on a ladder will quickly realize that it is more dangerous than it seems.  The machine puts out a lot of pressure – hence the name!  SO when you are up on a ladder suspended 5, 10 or 15 feet in the air and you pull that trigger there are a lot of moving parts and none of them are moving in your favor.  First the force of the water is pushing equally against you.  If you are in a strong position like you would usually be on the ground this is not usually a major problem but up in the air on a ladder cleaning one of the thousands of 2-story homes in Sugar Land it becomes an issue.  For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction and this means you are going to be pushed against by 2500, 3000 or even 4000 psi while hanging on with one hand and possibly one foot.  Sound like fun?

As professionals we remain on the ground almost all the time with the exception being if there is some strange geometry that keeps is from being able to spray an area…usually this happens when there is a covered porch or a chimney.  Not that our equipment can’t spray high or far enough but there is something in out way….like a house.  On a day with calm wind our equipment can allow us to clean a 3 story structure from the ground.  We have even gone up to 4 stories with a small step ladder.

I say all that to say this – if it looks dangerous from the ground imagine how dangerous it looks from 15 feet in the air.  Just call the pro’s and let us do it right while you remain safely on the ground!
